Quiet Days, Silent and Self Retreats

The importance and necessity of Silence in living contemplatively and with awareness, cannot be emphasized enough. It is by quietening the mind that we become aware of the inner voice, which points the way to a more meaningful life.

Although Silence plays an integral role in all of the retreats at The Restory, the following types of retreats are dedicated to Silence:

Quiet days.

Day visits to become quiet and centered in a safe and beautiful environment can be arranged for people who do not have the need to stay over. These days can be guided or unstructured as required. Rates are adjusted accordingly, also as to meal requirements. The rate for a basic unguided day without meals is R100.00 per person per day.

Silent Retreat

At this retreat the value of silence in helping us gain new balance and focus in life is explored over one weekend in a gentle introduction to the age-old traditions of monastries of many spiritual disciplines.

This guided retreat is done in a group context but also see Self Retreat further down for custom made retreats.

Self Retreat

There are times when you may be faced with big decisions, unexpected life changes or you may simply have the need for peace and quiet in order to gather yourself to face the challenges of life. Private retreats are customised to meet your needs. Spiritual direction on these retreats, whether fasting, quiet or utilised simply as a temporary withdrawal from life, is highly recommended to assist in the discerning process. This is provided but other than that the retreat is unstructured and slow paced. Take a walk down to the river, stroll through the herb and vegetables garden (even do some weeding if you feel like it), read, sleep, meditate or engage in some creative activity like trying your hand at clay, drawing or painting.

Skuld as Motivering Die Gesprek Elemente Uit Die Gesprek ~ ❖ ~ "I am convinced that guilt and shame are never from God. They are merely the defenses of the False Self as it is shocked at its own poverty — the defenses of a little man who wants to be a big man. God leads by compassion toward the soul, never by condemnation. If God would relate to us by severity and punitiveness, God would only be giving us permission to do the same (which is tragically, due to our mistaken images of God, exactly what has happened!)." Richard Rohr                 ~ ❖ ~ "It is about as hard to absolve yourself of your own guilt as it is to sit in your own lap. Wrongdoing sparks guilt sparks wrongdoing ad nauseam, and we all try to disguise the grim process from both ourselves and everybody else. In order to break the circuit we need friends before whom we can put aside the disguise, trusting that when they see us for what we fully are, they won't run away screaming with, if nothing wors
