In a Word

The Restory A word, a name started to grow where there has never been one. A name that carries within its roots all the elements of our philosophy of life. In naming, it feels like calling this dream into life. It suggests a place, one of rest. One of recovery and of the reclamation of potential. As is the case with an old worn out piece of furniture that is restored to its former glory. And it suggests story: the life story of each one of us that unfolds in fascinating detail. To take it even one step further, it resonates with   the word re-story. Meaning that the stories of our lives can be revisited, awakened anew or sometimes be rewritten. In all of this, we see ourselves merely as the custodians of that which has been entrusted to us. It involves a life lived close to the earth and in tune with the seasons. At   a place like The Restory on the farm Rietfontein, we envisage a quiet haven where all these threads are interwoven. We want to trust this place and the silence...

Roots

One actually knows. Sometimes, years later, one knows that you knew: That your mother was right about the demands of a marriage and the things you turned a blind eye to, then. Or that the course you are going to study will earn you a living, but it won’t make you come alive. One knows that another cup of coffee will be too much. One knows that you drink too little water and don’t get enough sleep.One knows that winter will pass and that change is the only constant factor. Also, one knows that there is more. But you don’t always know how to get there. You look in places that seem to have the answers: studies, religion, relationships. All good things and it teaches you, shows you, guides you.
