From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (105)

Today We're Not Talking The feature that stands out the most for us about Tafelkop is the fog. In the 9 months we have been living here, it has been and is a constant – winter and summer, early morning, late afternoon, at dusk when we go for a walk, then the fog rolls in through the gap where the road goes through Kastrolnek. As if it were constantly pressing against the back of Tefelkop, discovering the opening, breaking through and spilling over roofs, yards, fields. With the thick veil drawn over everything, we know there are still big trees in the lane. We hear them dripping. Other than that, it is dead silent.   In between. Not quite rain and not quite sky. Not totally dark, but not really light either. Early morning recording at Tafelkop - Holy Saturday Today is Silent Saturday.   The foggy day. Somewhere between death and life, where something has passed, but the new is not yet. Where the familiar beacons that provide our coordinates and make us feel safe are gone. And vag

Mentors The Conversation Elements From The Conversation ~ ❖ ~ An example of a mentor speaking from experience, preparing the boy for life:  "It is this. And listen carefully. I meditated on love and reasoned it out. I realized what is wrong with us. Men fall in love for the first time. And what do they fall in love with?" The boy's soft mouth was partly open and he did not answer. "A woman," the old man said. "Without science, with nothing to go by, they undertake the most dangerous and sacred experience in God's earth. They fall in love with a woman. Is that correct, Son?" "Yeah," the boy said faintly. "They start at the wrong end of love. They begin at the climax. Can you wonder it is so miserable? Do you know how men should love?" The old man reached over and grasped the boy by the collar of his leather jacket. He gave him a gentle little shake and his green eyes gazed down unblinking and grave. "Son, do you know how lov

Just Beyond Yourself Just Beyond Yourself Just beyond yourself. It’s where you need to be. Half a step into self-forgetting and the rest restored by what you’ll meet. There is a road always beckoning. When you see the two sides of it closing together at that far horizon and deep in the foundations of your own heart at exactly the same time, that’s how you know it’s the road you have to follow. That’s how you know it’s where you have to go. That’s how you know you have to go. That’s how you know. Just beyond yourself, it’s where you need to be.
