From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (225)

Existential Health Uncertainty, Mortality, Identity vs Role The Conversation    Elements From The Conversation  Creative Piece Alberto Giacometti - L’Homme qui marche (The Walking Man) 1960 Alberto Giacometti’s famous bronze figure L’Homme qui marche (The Walking Man) depicts a man walking, his arms hanging loosely at his sides. It has been described as a humble image of an ordinary man, yet at the same time a powerful symbol for all of humanity. Giacometti saw the natural balance of the steps as an image of man’s own vitality. The figure has no clothes, no professional features, no facial expression of bravado. He is simply human—fragile, alone, but still moving. It visually expresses that question: Who are you when you no longer “wear” your roles? You are not the armor of your work or efficiency; you are the essence that breaks through when everything is stripped away. There is a deep irony in the fact that Giacometti's ' L'Homme qui marche I' became one of the most...

From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (194)

For The New Year (For the original photo - thank you to our friend Ben) Looking back, it was, among other things, Rilke’s year. Here at Die Restory we have talked about him, he has often surfaced in our reflections on something and he was brought in on a few occasions to serve in the Opening and Closing Prayers of our meditations. He speaks our language. And hopefully, over time, he has influenced our voice.   Against that backdrop, and with the gathering of bits and pieces of Rilke here and there, our message to you here at The Restory:     In The Doorway Of A New Year (With thanks to Rainer Maria Rilke)   At the turning of the year, we are invited not to rush ahead, but to live the questions a little longer.   To trust that what is unfinished, what feels unclear or tired, may still be quietly at work within us.   The new year does not ask for answers, only for presence. For a willingness to stay close to what is real — to the rhythms of...

October 2025 Progress Report “The only journey is the one within. But sometimes the outer places - the houses we rebuild, the gardens we tend - mirror that inward journey and carry us further along.” Rainer Maria Rilke                        “A house that has been lived in, that has weathered storms, can be lived in again. Its strength is a kind of love, holding those who come after.” May Sarton                                                  “May your home always be a place of refuge,  a place where the weariness of the world  can fall away,  and the heart can find rest.” John O'Donohue                                              With our love. From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (178)

Thoughts Pried Loose By A Birthday Picnic against Tafelkop on my birthday. The Conversation Elements From The Conversation ` Music This past year, I have heard Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, properly for the first time. It touches me deeply and I've caught myself listening to it often. The older I get, the more I become aware of my clumsy efforts and tattered plans being carried by an infinite Gentleness.  With our love. George & Matilda

Gedagtes Losverjaar Piekniek teen Tafelkop op my verjaardag Die Gesprek Elemente Uit Die Gesprek ` Musiek Ek het vanjaar vir die eerste keer Beethoven se Simfonie Nommer 7 werklik gehoor. Dit spreek baie diep tot my. George & Matilda
