From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (96)

Filling The Well The Conversation Elements From The Conversation Music Anxiety empties our wells. Florence is exhausted by her efforts to run away from it. Anxiety drives leisurely next to her, arm on the door.  "But I hear the music, I feel the beat, And for a moment, when I'm dancing, I am free.." To dance often helps to get water into empty wells.  From us, with love. George & Matilda

Silencing The Scream

In an age where anxiety is rampant, despite all our developments and achievements, Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream almost acts as a society’s emblem. No wonder it sold for $120m at a Sotheby’s auction in New York last year.  Now I’m wondering: How did we get to the point where such a painting reflects our underlying mood? As I said, despite all our developments and achievements. What is lacking when we seem to have it all? And although I absolutely adore the painting, I find the price a bit too steep. How is it possible that somebody has so much money (In excess I might add. His/her other living expenses are apparently covered and he/she has a little something lying around to invest somewhere), while millions on the planet do not know where the next meal will come from? If ever. What is wrong with this picture? Pardon the pun! Edvard Munch was himself a troubled man. Suffering from insomnia, he would often book himself an overnight couchette to Oslo, as he f...

One step at a time

It's a fact: darkness isn't dark to you....                                                                                      Ps 139:12 (The Message) At this stage so many things happen all at once that I deliberately choose to only look right in front of me – there’s the sale of the farm, preparing my dad for the move to a retirement village, packing up the workshops at Rietfontein, getting the workshops up and running at our place in Wakkerstroom and moving everything down there, get everything in place to put Matilda’s house in Pretoria up for rent, the packing and moving of all our personal stuff, attend to the health of Matilda’s dad and determine whether we should find him other care facilities, get our house in Wakkerstroom to our liking and do some alt...

Type 6: The Doubter

Exploring the Enneagram through Art (continued)  Anxiety is the Signature trait  of this personality. Troubleshooters and stalwarts, guardians. Their fear of having no support or guidance drives them to always act in the appropriate or expected way. They do not feel that they are able to survive on their own and are forever seeking guidance and validation from outside themselves and especially in power structures, such as the Bible, state, science. They are loyalists and often overcommit themselves and may feel taken advantage of. Sixes need to get in touch with their own inner guidance to stop scuttling back and forth between whatever influence is the strongest in any given moment. In that respect Sixes are bundles of opposites. They attain a sense of peace when they get grounded in the here and now and face their fears. They learn to trust their inner authority and guidance and become courageous and self-reliant. The sculpture shows a very anxious an...
