From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (215)

Wider View On Purpose The Conversation Elements From The Conversation Music Sometimes, in living our calling, we just need someone to stand by us, to whistle the melody for us when we have forgotten the words. Once more, as alwys, with our love.  May your life carry the marks of love. Especially in what you do. George & Matilda

George & Matilda

From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (214)

My Purpose The Conversation Elements From The Conversation Music In the song, the "plan" she gives God is a plea for an end. • She is not asking God for a new path, but she is giving God a proposal or a roadmap to end this chapter of suffering ("To close this affair"). • It is an act of surrender: she can no longer bear the weight of the past, so she reaches out and says to the Creator, as it were, "Here's how we can end this pain. Help me to end it." There is an irony in the lyrics. Sometimes the only "plan" we can form is to admit that we have run out of plans. By saying "I'm giving God a plan," she may be saying, "I've decided that this 'affair' with sorrow is over; now God, you have to do the rest to make it happen." It is a shift from passive victim to someone who sets a boundary. May you gradually, through discovery, come home to your purpose. With our love. George & Matilda

Mag jy algaande, ontdekkend, in jou doel tuisko...

From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (208)

Love and Sorrow The Restory's program this week largely reflects the larger Easter themes. Over Easter weekend, starting on Thursday, the exceptional Pippa Jarvis from Embrace Village is hosting an Expressions of Loss retreat here with us, with the  focus on mourning. Others' stories of loss and grief unfold our humanity and touch us, precisely because recognition and compassion are part of the process. Over the 5 days that it lasts, we reflect on elements of the grieving process during the prayer times in the morning and evening, which beautifully connect with and give new meaning to the themes of Easter. The opening and closing prayers at the beginning and end of the times of silence, are the lines from a poem or other literature that highlight the theme of that day: Thursday Good Friday Holy Saturday Easter Sunday Easter Monday On the last day of the retreat, we return to the prayers of the first day.   Before the start of the retreat, with us being alone here at Ta...

Vanuit Die Restory - Gesprekke Tussen Reisgenote (208)

From The Restory - Conversations On The Journey (198)

Buttoning and Unbuttoning (1/2) The "smallness" of life can sometimes feel heavier than its great tragedies. A life needn't be "full" of tragedy. If it's "empty" of meaning, that emptiness can eventually become a crushing weight bearing down on the one living that life.  The Conversation Elements From The Conversation In contemplative spirituality, the "buttoning and unbuttoning" is resolved not by ignoring or sidestepping the task, but by changing the nature of the button. Instead of an obstacle to be overcome so that life can "begin," the act becomes life itself. Music ABBA's song  describes a life where the "buttons" are done perfectly, but the person inside is sleepwalking. Lord, We are not blind to the burden of the repetitive . The same plate, the same path to work, the same buttons, the same masks we put on. Please help us with the discouragement for “the next thing.” We know deep down that a task that is ...
