Scouting At Tafelkop

Gradually there's a build up towards the move to Tafelkop in about 2 months time. With the current owners still there and busy packing, I went over to be shown where  electricity cables run, and distribution boxes and drains are located. On the way to look at the fountain that provides the house with water, there is this beautiful waterfall in the stream. A whole new world to discover and become familiar with. George Angus

The Bible - Thoroughly Human   The Conversation  Elements From The Conversation  “I know that the Bible is a special kind of book, but I find it as seductive as any other. If I am not careful, I can begin to mistake the words on the page for the realities they describe. I can begin to love the dried ink marks on the page more  than I love the encounters that gave rise to them. If I am not careful,  I can decide that I am really much happier reading my Bible than I am entering into what God is doing in my own time and place,  since shutting the book to go outside will involve the very great risk  of taking part in stories that are still taking shape.  Neither I nor anyone else knows how these stories will turn out,  since at this point they involve more blood than ink.  The whole purpose of the Bible, it seems to me,  is to convince people to set the written word down  in order to become living words in the world for God's sake.  For me, this willing conversion of ink back to bloo

Open To The Year Retreat - Evening Meditative Experience 2

Starting With Mary, Involving Us As always, be here, be present. Breath deeply, becoming aware of your body. Whenever your mind wanders, ever so gently bring it back to this present moment." Returning to Friday evening and most of Saturday, we listen once more to Mary's question:  "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"  Her poems Wild Geese  and The Journey  give pointers, helping us to grow into our own answers. We start with Mary, but very soon we are totally involved. And by we, we refer to ourselves, other poets, people all over the world. The wonderful poet in his own right, David Whyte, reads Mary's The Journey  in the following recording.  (It must be Melanie Lutz's little dog, that sometimes seems to be dead. The Melanie who was listening to David Whyte, was busy recording him while watching her little dog and posted the video. Mary would've loved the little dog, filling the screen) In the latter part of the r

Open To The Year Retreat - Evening Meditative Experience 1

Start this meditative session by sitting comfortably and just be silent for a while. Whenever you're ready proceed to read and listen. Stop often, let it sink in. On a retreat, where the focus is on a specific poet, mystic, author or artist, we try, if possible, to include an interview with that person. It is good to hear her/his voice. Here then, an interview with Mary. Mary was attentive to nature with poems flowing out of that. Ludovico Einaudi channels those experiences into music.  Mary often talks about her fondness for "dead poets" and their influence on her life and work - Blake, Rumi, Whitman, Emerson, to name a few.  We too need the dead poets and their words: Excerpt from Dead Poets Society O Me! O Life! By Walt Whitman Oh me! Oh life! of the questions of these recurring, Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill’d with the foolish, Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?) Of eyes that vainly cr
