Ek Is, En Bewustelik Leef

Die Gesprek

Elemente Uit Die Gesprek

____________________

So I did this year of Biblical womanhood [which turned into a book]… and the project was probably the first time I spent a good amount of time speaking with and studying Jewish interpretations of the text. [In the process] I got to know an Orthodox Jewish lady named Ahava who helped me with some of the weird stuff that I had to do through the year following all those laws from Hebrew Scripture. Just getting to know her and getting to know some Jewish interpreters and seeing the Bible from that perspective really resonated with the invitation into questioning, that is just at the at the heart of how they engage.

Ahava’s husband is a rabbi and he had a bunch of other rabbis and scholars and whatnot over for dinner and she said, “Oh, they were talking and talking late into the night debating the Torah and nobody could seem to agree on anything and we were running out of food, and oh Rachel, it was wonderful!”

She just knew that the text had invited them into this community, into this conversation, and for her that was part of the deal. That's part of what made scripture beautiful.

I just really appreciated that perspective and it changed mine in a big way. So, instead of being afraid of my questions all the time and feeling guilty about my questions, I felt like, hey they're on to something here! The Bible invites this, it doesn't discourage it, but invites it, and to be given permission to indulge that, is really, really quite freeing….

She's been, thinkin', life ain't, givin' her what she needs
What can, make her, happy, is always out of her reach
Somebody gotta help me
But she, could not, see that, everything she wanted
Was in-side of, her heart, but she wouldn't give it away
No, she wouldn't give it away

We don't need no mournful sound
Shake your graveclothes to the ground
Shake your graveclothes off, shake your graveclothes,
Shake your graveclothes off, shake your graveclothes
Thoughts you're thinkin' make you feel like you're dead
But you can grow a garden out the top of your head
Shake your graveclothes off, shake your graveclothes,
Shake your graveclothes off, shake your graveclothes

Don't get lost inside your head
Don't get lost inside your head
Don't get lost inside your head
Don't get lost inside your head

He's been, wishin', he was, the best and the brightest
Scared to, give what, he's got, no he wouldn't give it away
Self-deprecation, lack of motivation, stealing his aliveness
In the silence love abounds and has already filled the spaces
And replaces them with grace if he would only stop to feel, to see

We don't need no mournful sound
Shake your graveclothes to the ground
Shake your graveclothes off, shake your graveclothes,
Shake your graveclothes off, shake your graveclothes
Thoughts you're thinkin' make you feel like you're dead
But you can grow a garden out the top of your head
Shake your graveclothes off, shake your graveclothes,
Shake your graveclothes off, shake your graveclothes

Want my juk is draaglik en my las is lig.” ‭‭Matteus‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭AFR20‬ ‬                               Die Gesprek Elemente Uit Die Gesprek ~ ❖ ~ Question of the Day: How does one incorporate imperfection? In a Navajo rug there is always one clear imperfection woven into the pattern. And interestingly enough, this is precisely where the Spirit moves in and out of the rug! The Semitic mind, the Eastern mind (which, by the way, Jesus would have been much closer to) understands perfection in precisely that way. The East is much more comfortable with paradox, mystery, and non-dual thinking than the Western mind which ...

Lessons in Sunbirdish (1)

I have no way of proving that God exists. For a long, long time I believed because I didn't think I had a choice. If it is a choice between heaven and hell, you do what it takes to secure your celestial seat. Somehow I never stopped to consider why I so strongly believed in a heaven and hell, but wasn't nearly as sure that there's a God holding the keys to them. Then the sunbirds came. Slowly but surely I am being taught the dialect I need to converse with God. Or rather, to follow on what seems to be a trail that God leaves me. Being just up ahead and beckoning me all the while, it's not a chase after or a search for God, but rather a joint venture with God scouting and reporting back when my spirit runs low on this journey through life. In  A Rare Find  and  Bird on my window sill  I touched on synchronicity. I have come to believe that consciously living our moments, awakens us to the fact that there are more things in this life than meet the eyeball. Things t...
