Supporting The Restory

“Accepting someone’s help is as good as giving someone help.”

                                                                                      Matthew 10:41 (The Message)

The work of The Restory is done for the people, but also through the people. We envisage it to be more so in the years to come. If we want to bring about a change in consciousness, that will alter the way we see ourselves and the world as well as the way we live, the talents, gifts and support of people are needed.

The Restory is not sustained by any large institution, foundation, or corporation. From the beginning, we have done the work mainly through generating our own sources of income – restoration projects, markets, pottery workshops, our art. To a very large extent we are still trying to do so, but balancing spiritual support and income generation is not easy and if we’re honest, we barely manage to make ends meet.

Our retreats, spiritual direction sessions and workshops also contribute to our income, but because we want to keep it as accessible as possible – especially to people who go through difficult times for which they need support but ironically cannot afford, and to the staff of non-profit organizations – there is actually no profit.

We are grateful for the contributions of close friends through the years. Through that it was possible to renovate our bathrooms and make it more functional for retreats, attend the Living School, Matilda doing the training in spiritual direction, erecting a carport, transforming the little ruin into a chapel and addressing our transport needs. There were times when donations and gifts helped us through a month. Without that the work would’ve ceased long ago.

We believe that helping people discover the often hidden or even denied traditions of Christian contemplation is particularly important during this time of social and political uncertainty. That was our aim right from the start; over the years it has merely grown in urgency. We want to expand the work of the Restory through our programs, videos, workshops and retreats. We want to improve and maintain facilities.

It won’t be possible to do that solely by way of previous strategies and methods.

We are getting older and there are days when we are physically so tired from our efforts of generating an income and the worries when we don’t succeed, that we find it difficult to be spiritually effective and sensitive. The task and challenges are too big for us. We need help.

Friends and family members have played a huge role in making us aware of that and of the importance of putting our needs out there.

Thank you that we can share this with you.

And as long as I draw breath

May I be

A light for those who have lost their way,

A home for the forsaken,

A backstage pass to the great unknown

When all the seats are taken

Want my juk is draaglik en my las is lig.” ‭‭Matteus‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭AFR20‬ ‬                               Die Gesprek Elemente Uit Die Gesprek ~ ❖ ~ Question of the Day: How does one incorporate imperfection? In a Navajo rug there is always one clear imperfection woven into the pattern. And interestingly enough, this is precisely where the Spirit moves in and out of the rug! The Semitic mind, the Eastern mind (which, by the way, Jesus would have been much closer to) understands perfection in precisely that way. The East is much more comfortable with paradox, mystery, and non-dual thinking than the Western mind which ...

Lessons in Sunbirdish (1)

I have no way of proving that God exists. For a long, long time I believed because I didn't think I had a choice. If it is a choice between heaven and hell, you do what it takes to secure your celestial seat. Somehow I never stopped to consider why I so strongly believed in a heaven and hell, but wasn't nearly as sure that there's a God holding the keys to them. Then the sunbirds came. Slowly but surely I am being taught the dialect I need to converse with God. Or rather, to follow on what seems to be a trail that God leaves me. Being just up ahead and beckoning me all the while, it's not a chase after or a search for God, but rather a joint venture with God scouting and reporting back when my spirit runs low on this journey through life. In  A Rare Find  and  Bird on my window sill  I touched on synchronicity. I have come to believe that consciously living our moments, awakens us to the fact that there are more things in this life than meet the eyeball. Things t...
