Announcing our Retreats for 2015

To retreat quite literally means that we step out of our normal day to day life and responsibilities and isolate ourselves for a time to restore energy and to find renewed balance in life. This may be for a few hours only or extended periods of days or weeks. In our busy lives, this may sound like a complete waste of precious time. To the contrary, new perspectives arise by reconnecting to our inner selves through practices such as gentle exercise, rest, meditation and contemplation. This leads to higher levels of energy, creativity and productivity.

Being in an environment dedicated to provide the necessary support and guidance can be of immeasurable value in bringing meaning to life. The mindfulness practices introduced at a retreat center can and should be continued in normal day to day life. It holds the key to a heightened awareness of our moments and days which is life changing.

At The Restory we are in the fortunate position to be the custodians of a truly healing space, where the key elements in creating a near perfect retreat environment are present in abundance. Nature herself tends to us most lovingly through every season. Tucked away from town and city a deep and wonderful silence enfolds us. This naturally sparks creativity and allows for new perspectives and possibilities to arise as we move into the gentle practices designed to help us reconnect to our inner selves.

Retreatants will experience this while being accommodated in our beautiful century old stone house with wooden floors and wide windowsills to sit and dream at. The garden, vegetable and herb patch are at your disposal to enjoy. Guided walks down to the river and waterfall can be undertaken in fine weather. An extensive library is at your disposal if the weather does not play along. Creative outlet is encouraged and art supplies are available for whatever play want to arise. The taking of photographs is strongly advised. All meals are catered for and dietary requirements taken into account as far as possible. Participation in food preparation forms part of the retreat practice to engage our senses.

Individual spiritual direction is provided by George Angus who is a qualified and experienced director. (See Meet us)

Skuld as Motivering Die Gesprek Elemente Uit Die Gesprek ~ ❖ ~ "I am convinced that guilt and shame are never from God. They are merely the defenses of the False Self as it is shocked at its own poverty — the defenses of a little man who wants to be a big man. God leads by compassion toward the soul, never by condemnation. If God would relate to us by severity and punitiveness, God would only be giving us permission to do the same (which is tragically, due to our mistaken images of God, exactly what has happened!)." Richard Rohr                 ~ ❖ ~ "It is about as hard to absolve yourself of your own guilt as it is to sit in your own lap. Wrongdoing sparks guilt sparks wrongdoing ad nauseam, and we all try to disguise the grim process from both ourselves and everybody else. In order to break the circuit we need friends before whom we can put aside the disguise, trusting that when they see us for what we fully are, they won't run away screaming with, if nothing wors
